Freemasonry is one of the worlds oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. It means many things to its many members. Ultimately, it exists to do good in society, by helping good men become better.

Freemasonry is a society of men concerned with moral and spiritual values. Its members are taught its principles (moral lessons and self-knowledge) by a series of ritual dramas, a progression of allegorical two-part plays which are learnt by heart and performed within each Lodge and which follows ancient forms, using stonemasons customs and tools as allegorical guides.

From its earliest days, Freemasonry has been concerned with the care of orphans, the sick and the aged and operates one of the largest benevolent funds in the UK to help needy groups. On almost every evening Freemasons in the Chorley area work to make a difference to society in this way.
